Braintree Sports Volunteer, Father of Two Running for Town Council

Ronald DeNapoli is the current councilor in District 5.

Nick DiMartino, an account manager for heavy equipment company Milton CAT and longtime Braintree youth baseball, soccer and hockey volunteer, has announced that he will run for District 5 Councilor this fall.

DiMartino, a Boston native who moved to Braintree in 2006, lives on Academy Street with his wife Julie and two sons. He said he will bring a love for the town, a focus on youth issues, public education and quality of life to the job.

“As a father of two kids in Braintree Public Schools, a volunteer youth sports coach and a seven-year resident of Braintree, I’m invested in our community and I want to do all I can on the Town Council to make Braintree the best it can be,” DiMartino said in a statement. “That means better schools, quality services, and stronger neighborhoods.”

Only a few candidates have declared their intent to run so far this summer, including School Committee Shannon Hume for the Councilor-at-Large seat left open by Leland Dingee's upcoming retirement.

Babe Ruth volunteer Carl Zingarelli threw his hat into the ring for District 5 Councilor before leaving the race just a few days later. Of the current councilors, District 2 Councilor John Mullaney and District 6 Councilor Paul "Dan" Clifford have formally announced their intentions to seek re-election.

Candidates in this year's local election can begin their campaigns in earnest starting Monday Aug. 5, when nominating paperwork becomes available and door-knocking for signatures begins throughout Braintree.

DiMartino graduated from Catholic Memorial High School and then earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Bridgewater State University. He is a Target Account Manager for Milton CAT, a company that sells and rents Caterpillar heavy equipment and power systems, and has been working in the private sector for 20 years.

DiMartino also has political experience as campaign treasurer for City Councilor Rob Consalvo.

He and his wife raised their boys in Braintree. They attend Hollis Elementary School. Julie is an administrative assistant at F1 Air in Braintree.

“I have enjoyed several years as a volunteer coach and level director for Braintree Youth Hockey and Braintree American Little League and also as a coach of Braintree Youth Soccer,” DiMartino wrote in a blog post on his campaign website.

“Being a coach is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. I've developed great friendships with parents and families across the town and have enjoyed working with the kids to help them be the best they can be on the ice and on the field.”
