Braintree Retirement Home Among Those Fined for Pay Violation

Several facilities in Massachusetts were ordered to pay $132,000 in restitution and fines by the Attorney General.

Grove Manor Estates and its affiliated assisted living neighborhood The Glen were part of a group of nursing homes that have agreed to pay more than $132,000 in restitution and penalties to resolve allegations they failed to pay earned vacation wages to terminated employees.

Attorney General Martha Coakley announced the agreement Monday. It stems from an investigation launched in January after the AG's office received a complaint from a former employee at Ellis Nursing Homes in Norwood.

The investigation determined that vacation wages were owed to a total of 209 employees at four locations: Ellis Nursing Homes in Norwood, Grove Manor Estates, Inc. in Braintree, Glen at Grove Manor, Inc. in Braintree, and Meadow Green Nursing Home, Inc. in Waltham, according to a press release.

"Failure to pay wages is a violation of Massachusetts law that must be enforced to protect employees who earned their pay,” Coakley said in the statement. “We are pleased that this settlement will bring restitution to the former employees who were affected by the actions of these companies.”

Coakley said that all of the facilities cooperated and that all 209 former employees will receive payments. The release did not break out amounts owed by retirement home.
