Braintree Honors its Presidents on Birthday of John Quincy Adams

"A favorite son of Braintree," as Mayor Joseph Sullivan put it, John Quincy Adams was a pragmatic leader, someone whose leadership qualities the United States could use today in Washington, DC.

Sullivan and others gathered Thursday afternoon outside Town Hall to celebrate the birthday of Adams, the sixth President of the United States, as well as Braintree's other presidents, his father John Adams and John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress and President under the Articles of Confederation.

The ceremony was put on by the Braintree Bi-Centennial Time Capsule Society, the Braintree Historical Society, Braintree Post 86 American Legion, Braintree Chapter 29 Disabled American Veterans, Braintree Post 1702 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Braintree Veterans Council.

The birth records of all three men, housed in the vault of the Town Clerk, were also on display after the ceremony.
