Fix Underway for Braintree Electric Light Customers After Local TV Channel Disruption

A problem with the Needham community power site took several Boston channels off the air on Sunday, April 8.

BELD Broadband is continuing to experience disruptions to local channels 4, 8 and 19 (WBZ, WSBK and WGBX) as well as their high-definition counterparts 504, 508, and 519. A transmission line or antenna fault at the Needham community tower site took several Boston broadcast stations off the air Sunday, April 8. These particular channels are continuing to experience technical difficulties at their over-the-air transmitter site.

According to a statement on its website, the station has had crews working on the situation since last night and hopes to have service restored soon.

“We began notifying our customers of the outage when we found out about it from another operator early this morning,” said BELD Broadband Division Manager Jack Orpen. “So we appreciate our customers’ patience as we all wait for the WBZ broadcast crews to resolve the issue.”

For 118 years (BELD) has been a nonprofit public power utility owned and operated by the citizens of Braintree. BELD Broadband offers high-speed Internet, cable television and phone service to Braintree residents and businesses.
