Stabbing at Plaza Friday Night No 'Random Attack,' Police Say

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 20-year-old Boston man was attacked, likely by someone he knew, and stabbed during an apparent fight at the South Shore Plaza.

Police were called to the Plaza shortly after 8 p.m. on July 13 and came across the victim near Milton's. He had a cut on his arm and was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

The victim and most of his companions were uncooperative with detectives, Jenkin said, though they garnered some information from witnesses who came forward. One witness reported seeing two black males run up from behind the Boston man and assault him without confrontation beforehand.

Two people who work in the Plaza told police they heard a "commotion" near Kay Jewelers and saw a group of men fighting, Jenkins said.

"This does not appear to be a random attack," Jenkins said. "Most likely the victim and his attackers knew each other and our detectives will be looking at this angle as part of their investigation."

Police have also been checking nearby stores' surveillance cameras for evidence, Jenkins said.
