Shots Fired at Mattulina Playground, Braintree Man Stabbed

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Braintree police are investigating an incident that left a 24-year-old Braintree man with stab wounds and brought the sound of gunfire to the Mattulina Playground neighborhood Sunday evening.

The stabbing victim suffered several wounds and was brought to South Shore Hospital around 6 p.m., Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement. A 21-year-old Braintree man was also treated at the hospital for a small cut to his hand.

"An off-duty Boston police officer reported that he was driving by the playground and observed a group of individuals fighting and then heard gunshots," Jenkins said. "Everyone then fled the area."

One person from the playground later confirmed two shots were fired. Quincy and Weymouth canine units trained to locate weapons could not find firearms or the knife used in the assault.

“This investigation is on-going, but from what we know at this point, this was not a random attack,” Jenkins said.
