Police: Braintree Man Crashes While Texting and Driving

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 24-year-old Braintree man was texting and under the influence of drugs when he crashed through a chain link fence and nearly hit a house, police said.

Brian P. Norton drove his vehicle across the road, through the fence, several trees and brush before coming to a stop close to a Commercial Street home Tuesday afternoon, Police Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

"Responding officers learned that Norton was texting while driving and apparently lost control of his vehicle," Jenkins said.

He performed sobriety tests after officers noticed possible drug use and was charged, in addition to texting and driving, with operating under the influence of drugs (second offense), failure to keep within marked lanes, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and texting while driving.
