Passion for Polo Shirts Leaves 60-Year-Old Man Behind Bars

A 60-year-old Dorchester man was arrested and charged with shoplifting from Newbury Comics in Braintree after staff identified him and surveillance video showed the man concealing polo shirts and jackets over several weeks.
Marvin B. Cooper was arrested last Wednesday, Feb. 20, when employees of the store at the South Shore Plaza saw him come in and recognized him from previous visits to the polo section of the store, Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.
"Cooper left the store prior to police arrival, but he was located at the bus stop by Detective Stephen Wallace and brought back to Newbury Comics where employees made a positive identification," Jenkins said. "Detective Charles Paris
learned from employees that the store was experiencing a high amount of missing polo shirts and that Cooper had been seen in the store on numerous occasions frequenting the area where the polo shirts were displayed."

Over the course of three incidents, Cooper allegedly stole $1,300 worth of merchandise. He was charged with three counts of larceny over $250.
