An additional detail has been revealed about the situation surrounding a Waltham city government employee recently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Mayor Jeanette McCarthy, in a Dec. 21 email, said "the employee is not authorized to drive any city vehicle," referring to Mark Casella.
Casella was arrested on Dec. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (second offense). He was found unconscious behind the wheel of a truck on Pleasant Street where police later found him, according to police. Police investigated the incident and determined Casella was intoxicated and arrested him. He also failed a field sobriety test, police said.
McCarthy has not specified for which department Casella works.
"Everything else is a personnel issue, which I am not permitted to
comment on," McCarthy wrote.
Attempts to reach Casella have been unsuccessful. A call to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office for updates on Casella's case went unreturned on Dec. 21.
