Massachusetts State Police is joining more than 100 other law enforcement agencies across the globe for the 24-hour-long Tweet-a-thon on Friday, Nov. 1.

The event will kick off at 8 a.m. Friday using the hashtag #poltwt.

The day is to “raise awareness about police work and issues police face as well as to promote the use of social media in policing,” said the Mass State Police.

It is the second Tweet-a-Thon. The first Tweet-a-Thon saw hundreds of law enforcement agencies tweeting from around the world. The police calls tweeted ranged from the serious to the mundane with the United Kingdom especially having a large presence at the first Tweet-a-Thon.

So far, law enforcement agencies in six countries have agreed to take part, but that number will likely rise by Friday.

The Mass State Police will tweet from the Troop C Headquarters in Holden. The Mass State Police doesn’t typically tweet everyday calls, but will be using their Twitter account as a “virtual dispatch,” and will give out calls happening within Troop C, which covers Central Massachusetts.

Trooper @DustinGFitch will be tweeting for the @MassStatePolice.

“We are grateful for our Twitter followers and hope they enjoy this glimpse of a day in the life of one of our Troops,” said Trooper Fitch, the department’s Social Media Specialist.

"We have participation from agencies in New Zealand and Kenya all over Europe, Canada and the US,” said Lauri Stevens, founder of LAwS Communications and organizer of the Global Police Tweet-a-thon. "We’re calling attention to the great police work being done globally as well as connecting cops around the world.”
