Man Arrested in Braintree in Connection With Two Weymouth Robberies

Police believe Matthew J. Doherty of Marshfield entered the Super Petroleum Gas Station on Washington Street last June, demanded money, assaulted the attendant and fled with cash.

Police believe a Marshfield man is responsible for two recent robberies at two Weymouth businesses.

Police arrested Matthew J. Doherty, 35, of 40 Crane Street, Marshfield at around 3:30 p.m. Monday in Braintree and transported him to Weymouth.

An investigation by a task force of detectives from several area police departments and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force identified Doherty as a suspect in a Weymouth Gas Station robbery last June as well as several other area robberies.

Weymouth police believe Doherty entered the Super Petroleum Gas Station at 1145 Washington Street on June 10, demanded money, assaulted the attendant and fled with cash.

According to Cpt. Richard Fuller, the Weymouth Police also expect to file charges against Doherty for the September 20 robbery of the Citizen’s Bank in South Weymouth.
