Braintree police are investigating a single-vehicle accident on Sunday night that resulted in a 53-year-old man being sent to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

The operator, a Weymouth man, suffered serious head and neck injuries from the crash, which happened at 11:21 p.m. on Quincy Avenue, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

The motorcyle was traveling north in the right lane, accelerated and switched lanes to pass another vehicle, according to witness statements to police. One witness, in the vehicle ahead of the Weymouth man, could not estimate the motorcyle's speed, Jenkins said.
