A 52-year-old Quincy man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a Braintree woman's car, using a rock to smash the window near Cardi's Furniture and Dunkin' Donuts.
Christopher P. Chaplain was charged with breaking and entering and malicious damage to property after police determined that gold coins were missing from the vehicle and several gold coins were found on Chaplain, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.
"The victim, a twenty-six year old Braintree woman, reported that she was walking towards her car and heard glass breaking," Jenkin said. "As she got closer, she observed the suspect, later identified as Chaplain, appear from her driver’s side and start running towards Dunkin Donuts and the MBTA station."
At that point, the victim saw that her vehicle's window had been smashed and that there was a rock on the ground next to it. She later identified Chaplain at the train station where he was located by police.
