Encounter at Braintree Gym Nearly Turns Violent, Man Arrested for Assault

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 44-year-old Braintree man was arrested last week after allegedly threatening to harm another man at a gym on Washington Street in Braintree.

Timothy Dutcher was charged with assault and battery, assault by means of a dangerous weapon and threats to commit a crime after the incident, on Thursday morning, Aug. 9, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

Dutcher allegedly became angry with a 27-year-old Quincy man and backed him into a corner at the gym.

"Dutcher then allegedly struck the victim with an open hand; picked up two five pound weights and held them over his head while threatening to harm the Quincy man," Jenkins said. "The Quincy man was able to get past Dutcher, flee the gym and call police from a nearby gas station."

When police arrived, Dutcher was already gone, Jenkins said, but they tracked him down at his house.
