Driver Allegedly Drunk When Crashing into Braintree Home During Snowstorm

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 61-year-old Whitman man was arrested during the snowstorm Saturday night after his vehicle hit a Franklin Street home.

The man was charged with operating under the influence and a marked lanes violation after Braintree police arrived, Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

When he got to the scene after stopping briefly at another minor accident at Franklin and Hollingsworth, Officer David Clark saw that the operator, Stephen D. Libby, had sustained a minor injury and that the home had only minimal damage, Jenkins said.

Libby "exhibited several signs of possible intoxication" at the scene and back at the station recorded a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
