Does Braintree Need New Anti-Solicitor Regulations?

Officials are considering new regulations after a disgusting incident involving a Comcast representative earlier this year.

Braintree officials are considering new anti-solicitor regulations after a disgusting incident involving a Comcast representative earlier this year.

In February, a resident told the Town Council she saw a man defecate in her yard. She called police, who determined the man was part of a crew hired by a Comcast contractor to distribute flyers across town. Many of the crew members were homeless, and two of the men had felony warrants and were arrested.

Comcast representative Gerry Buckley apologized to the council last week. He said the company severed its relationship with the contractor, Power Direct out of California.

Councilors said they are considering new regulations to prevent future incidents.

Council President Thomas Bowes said a current ordinance does not require solicitors to register with police. He said the council will discuss a revised ordinance at its April 30 meeting.
