Braintree, Hingham and Norwell police are among the area departments who will participate in the "Click it Or Ticket Mobilzation" starting on Memorial Day weekend, reported the Patriot Ledger.

That means officers will make special checks for seat belt violations, as well as child safety violations. The added patrols are supported by a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. It runs through June 1.

Can someone clarify this law for me. I thought in MA you could not be pulled over by the police for not wearing your seatbelt. I am under the impression you can be ticketed for not wearing your seatbelt but only if pulled over for another violatation (speeding, running stop sign, etc). I have to admit I only wear my belt about half the time. I know, I'm bad...

Yes secondary violation.
