Braintree Woman Killed in Route 93 Crash

A Braintree woman was killed in a single-vehicle car crash in Boston early Thursday morning, according to police.

At 3:09 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks that cover the Boston Tunnels received a radio call for a single-car crash on Route 93 southbound, by the entrance to the HOV Lane, in Boston.   

On arrival troopers found that a 2013 Hyundai Accent had, for reasons still under investigation, had swerved to the left and crashed into the concrete barrier.

The operator, Alycia Rice, 27, of Braintree, sustained life-threatening injuries. The Boston Fire Department extricated Ms. Rice from her vehicle and transported her to Boston Medical Center by Boston EMS. Rice later was pronounced deceased at BMC.

Rice was the sole occupant of the Hyundai. No other vehicles involved in the crash. The left and middle lanes were closed for approximately 2 ½ hours to allow for rescue operations, crash investigation and subsequent clean-up.

The crash currently remain under investigation by Troop E of the Massachusetts State Police, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services. Troopers were assisted on scene by the Boston fire Department, Boston Health and Hospitals and Mass Department of Transportation.

No further information is being released at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
