A 15-year-old Braintree boy was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly driving without a license and driving away from a police officer on Pearl Street at excessive speeds.
The boy – whose name was withheld because of his age – was stopped near South Braintree Square for operating without headlights just after 1 a.m., Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.
"As Officer [Kevin] Timulty exited his vehicle, the pickup truck sped off and reached speeds estimated to be approximately 80 miles per hour in a 30MPH
zone," Jenkins said. "Officer Timulty lost sight of the pickup truck in the area of Pearl and Ivory Streets, but officers later located the vehicle near the Mattulina Playground and identified the operator and his fourteen-year-old passenger."
The passenger was released to his father without being charged with a crime.
The driver was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, failure to stop for the police, no headlights and operating to endanger, Jenkins said.
