Braintree police are asking residents to use the department's email tip system to help with a home invasion this weekend in which three men armed with handguns tied up two brothers.
The break-in happened at a condominium at 800 West St. early Sunday morning, Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement. On Monday, the department Twitter account asked for information via its email@example.com tip line.
Police pointed to another case in which they arrested two drug dealers and seized several bags of heroin and cocaine as a success because of a tip from a Highlands resident.
Two brothers, ages 19 and 20, were tied up during the West Street home invasion. The culprits apparently were looking for money that they thought the brothers' uncle had hidden in the condo, Jenkins said.
Three men confronted one of the brothers in the parking lot at 1 a.m. Sunday and forced their way into the home.
"His younger brother was asleep in his bedroom," Jenkins said. "All three men were armed with handguns and the younger brother was struck with a gun once in the head by one of the intruders while he was questioned about the location of the money.
"After failing to find any money, the men scooped up everything of value, including a laptop, cellphones, gaming stations, clothing and alcohol. Both brothers were bound prior to the intruders departure."
The men were described as black males, possibly Haitian, in their mid-20s and six feet or taller, though one of them could have been shorter. They likely fled in a mini-van. Jenkins said the uncle did not come home until after the suspects left.
