Braintree Police Investigate 'IRS' Scam

After completing the transaction the victim realized it was a scam.

Police are investigating a scam that involves a person claiming to be from the IRS. 

On Monday, June 16, one victim received a call stating he had a warrant for his arrest and to call a specified number, said police. He called the number back and spoke to the “alleged” officer at length and agreed to pay a fine to clear up the warrant. 

After completing the transaction the victim realized it was a scam.

“There are numerous phone scams similar to this that continue to take place,” said Chief Russell Jenkins. “If a call is received demanding money from anyone unknown to you, we suggest you advise the caller you want to contact your local police department to verify their authenticity.”
