Braintree Man Flees Police, Arrested for Driving Stolen Car, B&E Charges

This Braintree man is charged with stealing a car from a Braintree business, fleeing police, and outstanding B&E warrants in Florida

A driver who fled a traffic stop and then crashed a short distance away was wanted on a felony charge for driving a stolen car, said Hingham Police.

Martin Donald Mullen 27, 34 McCuster Drive, Apt. 9, Braintree, was charged with using a vehicle without authority, receiving stolen property over $250, failure to stop for a police officer, giving a false name to police, operating to endanger, resisting arrest, marked lanes violation and a red light violation.

Mullen, after being stopped, fled and was tracked by State Police K9, said, police.

On Tuesday, July 25, around 10:28 p.m., a resident reported that a driver was urinating beside his car on South Pleasant Street. The caller said the man's speech was slurred and that he drove onto Main Street heading south. Officers pulled Mullen over near Scarlet Oak Restaurant on Main Street. Mullen gave a false name an address, said police. Police then recognized him from a wanted bulletin, when he admitted his true name. As the officer asked him to step out, he drove away.

Mullen, who drove a Lexus, sped through a red light at Main Street and Whiting Street and continued to Pond Street in Norwell, said police.

The officer followed him to Rockland, where he struck a stopped car on Route 3 south on the off ramp exit. Mullen fled to the woods.

Nearby State Trooper Matthew Hannigan and his K9 tracked Mullen into a wooded area near the crash scene, where he was taken into custody, said police.

Mullen also had an outstanding felony for Breaking and Entering in the Daytime for a Felony and Malicious or Wanton Damage. He is also wanted on a non-extradition warrant from Florida on burglary charges, said police.

The Lexus, said police, was stolen earlier in the day from a Braintree business.

Mullen is being held without bail at Plymouth County House of Correction and will be arraigned on July 16.
