Braintree Firefighters Get Hands-On Fire Training

A trailer from the state allowed Braintree firefighters a firefighting refresher.

Members of the Braintree Fire Department trained this week in a trailer provided by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Safety and designed to simulate a smoky blaze.

The training is different from previous "flashover" trainings that Braintree firefighters have also done in the parking lot behind the Sons of Italy, Training Officer Rich Nigrelli said.

While those exercises included live fire and smoke, the trailer used this week is gas-powered and can be tightly controlled by an electronic panel in the back.

"It's a hands-on refresher," Nigrelli said.
