Bomb Threats Cleared at Area Kmarts, Including Braintree

Kmart stores around the area received threats Friday.

Braintree police investigated a bomb threat at Kmart on Grossman Drive Friday night.

The threat was among several at Kmart stores in the area, according to a report in the Boston Herald. Police and fire officials investigated threats to six Boston-area Kmarts but found nothing, the Herald said the state Fire Marshal’s office reported.

On Friday, Braintree police were among police departments around the world that participated in an all-day tweet-a-thon, providing real-time information to residents about what they were doing. Friday evening, using the initiative's hashtag, the BPD tweeted:

"Units investigating a bomb threat at K-Mart. Avoid the area. #poltwt

Police Chief Russell Jenkins did not immediately respond to comment Saturday morning.

"'All scenes have been cleared with no hazards found. There have been similar incidents at Kmart stores across the nation in the past few months. The FBI has been advised,'” Fire Marshal’s Office spokeswoman Jennifer Mieth told the Herald.
