UPDATE: Bomb Threat Found at Braintree High Deemed Not Credible

A note was found in a bathroom at the high school Monday afternoon.

UPDATE: Headmaster James Lee said in a voice message Tuesday afternoon that situations such as the one Monday at BHS happen fairly often in districts throughout the state, though having a date attached means looking more closely at the note and its credibility.

"They happen all around the state with more consistency than they have in the past, largely because school administrators take them so seriously," Lee said.

He added that he could not provide a figure for how many times it has happened at Braintree High. He has experienced the threats at past jobs, in Manchester Essex and Newburyport. Monday's note was less credible than those he has seen elsewhere, Lee said.

Braintree police have determined that a bomb threat found on a piece of toilet paper at Braintree High School did not contain "credible" information.

A student found the note in a second floor bathroom early Monday afternoon. It consisted of "language that could be construed as a threat to the overall school," Headmaster James Lee said in an electronic message sent to parents Tuesday afternoon.

The note highlighted Wednesday, April 3, but school administrators did not consider it a "credible threat," Lee said. Nevertheless, they turned it over to the Braintree Police Department, which agreed that there was no credible information in the note.

"We want to simply make you aware that this note was discovered, and to reinforce that we see no danger to either staff or students from its contents," Lee said. "Wednesday will run as a normal school day at Braintree High School."

Police Chief Russell Jenkins said he had no further comment.
