17-Year-old Driving with Permit Arrested for OUI New Year's Eve

Among the incidents Braintree police responded to on New Year's Eve were two alleged drunk driving situations, including one involving a teenage girl from Braintree who was driving without a license.
Police arrested Fiona Gjata, 17 of Braintree, at midnight after stopping her on the Union Street on-ramp to Route 3 driving without headlights, Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.
Gjata was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, unlicensed operation and failure to display headlights after officers determined she only had a learner's permit and was not with a licensed driver. She took field sobriety tests and later failed a blood alcohol test at the station, Jenkins said.

Later that night, at 3:05 a.m. on Jan. 1, police stopped another driver for operating without headlights and allegedly found him to be drunk.
Sean P. O’Brien, 27, of Holbrook was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (second offense), failure to keep within marked lanes, failure to display headlights and operating with no registration in possession. after performing sobriety tests.

O'Brien was stopped when a Braintree officer saw him swerve into the officer's lane on Washington Street near Peach Street. After O'Brien corrected himself, the officer stopped him and observed signs of intoxication, Jenkins said.
