14-Year-Old Braintree Student Struck by Vehicle, Released from Hospital

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 14-year-old Braintree student was struck by a vehicle while crossing Union Street Thursday morning and brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

The student was hit while in the crosswalk at Hillside Road by a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Braintree man just after 7 a.m., Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

"The student was struck by the passenger side rear view mirror as the operator swerved to avoid striking her and suffered minor injuries," Jenkins said. "She was transported to South Shore Hospital and has since been released."

The driver was not named because he was not charged with a crime, Jenkins said. He was cited for failing to stop for a pedestrian and having an obscured window.

Correction: The name of the cross road was Hillside, not Hillsdale.
