Broad Ambitions for War

Phew... SO glad the President decided to run it through congress and do it the "lawful" way. Their wisdom in cases like Vietnam, Korea, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Angola, Iraq (twice), Afghanistan, etc. has all but saved us from imminent danger. The zinger is that while some of those wars were done unilaterally by the executive branch and some were done through congressional approval--all were probably unnecessary, to different degrees. Ask questions but ask the right questions. Who are the two players in the Middle East who remain decidedly unfriendly to the US? Syria and Iran. Okay, we've been steadily on our anti-Iran grind for some decades now, seeking to economically cripple the regime and gain leverage over the country's oil. Add the new (as of July) Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline deal that shows promise to Iran in securing autonomy over their natural resources. Yes, I'm saying it darn well could mean a step closer to war with Iran, in case I didn't connect that well enough. Syria is Iran's only bridge into the Mediterranean for oil shipment, and to Lebanon for arms smuggling against Israel, and way of ever potentially reclaiming Golan Heights from Israel. Supplanting their closest ally in the region with a new, US-friendly leadership in Syria would mean a significantly higher likelihood of direct conflict with Iran. Maybe go ahead and throw 'em the legalization bone by letting Colorado and Washington do their thing with cannabis and allow for more buy-in. Ambitions for war are broader than the public eye sees. The gears of capitalism are in search of a greasing and, as always, there is no war but the class war.
