Braintree Obituaries – Veteran of World War II and Korean War Passes

The following are recent obituaries for Braintree residents or those with Braintree ties.

Joseph Onofrio Vatalaro of Braintree, 85 years of age, entered Life Eternal at the Beth Israel- Deaconess Hospital, Boston on Sunday, July 14th 2013 after a period of declining health.  He was born at Orient Heights, East Boston on February 9, 1928 to Antonio Onofrio and Maria Teresa (Vecchio) Vatalaro.  He was a graduate of St. Lazarus High School. He resided at Orient Heights before moving to Braintree 48 years ago. ....

Joseph served with the US Navy from January 5, 1946 to December 1st 1953.  He was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict.  He was a Past Commander for American Legion Post 86 in Braintree and participated until just recently in preparing meals for the American Legion members.  He was a member of the Braintree Lodge Sons of Italy and the Braintree Men’s Club.
