Three Boys at South Middle School Return Wallet with $1,600 Cash

The Braintree students found the wallet last month and it was brought to the police station.

Three students at South Middle School found a wallet last month containing $1,600 in cash and a Charlie Card, called their parents and returned it to the Braintree Police Department.

The boys – sixth and seventh graders Michael Fahey and brothers Brian and Justin Maccarone – were honored Tuesday morning for their good deed.

The Charlie Card helped the police find the right owner, an elderly woman from Boston who was "extremely pleased" by the boys' kindness, South Middle Principal Ed McDonough and Secretary Catherine Maguire said in an email.

"These three thoughtful nice boys' actions lifted us as students and adults alike," they said. "The message to them from all of us is do well and feel good about it."

McDonough, Police Chief Russell Jenkins, Mayor Joseph Sullivan and Superintendent Dr. Maureen Murray were on hand Tuesday to congratulate the boys.
