Braintree Employees Raise Money for Jimmy Fund with Red Sox Drive

The Jimmy Fund supports Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Town employees wore Red Sox gear throughout the month of October to support the team through its World Series run and raise money for the Jimmy Fund.

The workers donated $5 for the privilege of casual wear, and on Friday, Nov. 1 two Red Sox flags were placed at Town Hall, one in a window and the second on a flag pole in front of the building.

“In the past we have had ‘wear jeans’ Fridays in support of various charities such as the Braintree Food Pantry," Mayor Joseph Sullivan said in a statement. “But with the Red Sox playoff run we thought it was a great opportunity to recognize the team’s long-time partnership with the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber and make a contribution to a cause that has been dear to New England since the days when Ted Williams patrolled left field at Fenway Park.”

One of the flags at Town Hall was loaned to the mayor by Elaine Couture, a secretary at the Liberty School

On Friday morning, the mayor presented Couture with a new Red Sox cap and a Baby Ruth candy bar as a thank you for loaning the Red Sox flag for the day, according to a statement from the mayor's office.
