Braintree Crime Writer's Second Book Nominated for Award

MacDonald's crime novel The Charlestown Connection was released in August 2011. His second, Beyond the Bridge, was released last summer.

Tom MacDonald, a Braintree author whose first crime novel The Charlestown Connection won a best first novel award last year, has been nominated for another award for his book, Beyond the Bridge.

MacDonald's second novel, a prequel to his first, was released this past August. It is a finalist in the FictionThriller/Adventure category of  the 2013 USA Best Book Awards.

Both books focus on the crime solving of Irish/Micmac Indian protagonist, Dermot Sparhawk. The Charlestown Connection was awarded Best First Novel at the 2012 Next Generation Book Awards.

MacDonald has been an athlete, a bartender, has studied sociology, worked as a computer analyst and now works in the non-profit sector. He received his BA from Stonehill College, MBA from Boston College, Carroll School of Management and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine.

He will sign books and speak at Bradbury's Boutique on Washington Street in Braintree on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
