Arthur Davies of Braintree Receives Presidential Service Award

Davies received the national recognition for donating 8,000 hours of his time to helping the community.

Arthur Davies, who has logged more than 8,000 volunteer hours working with groups such as the Marge Crispin Center and The Arc of the South Shore, recently received the 2013 President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Davies also serves on the Board of Union Towers, where he established the Arthur Davies Computer Learning Center for those living at the senior housing complex.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program in this country, according to a press release from Mayflower RSVP. It recognizes Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

Winners receive the official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin, certificate of achievement and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States.

Mayflower RSVP is one of 750 volunteer programs in a national network with funding from the Corporation for National & Community Service, enabling older Americans to make a difference in their local communities. It is also funded by the United Way of Greater Plymouth County and with generous donations from businesses and individuals.

Mayflower RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for Plymouth County, is a designated national Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award Program.
