Memorial Bench Planned for BHS Student Who Passed Away Recently

Nathan Buliga's father Chris ran the Boston Marathon this year to raise money for the children's cancer clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The Braintree High School Class of 2016 Student Council is raising money to install a memorial bench for Nathan Buliga, a sophomore who passed away last month after a long battle with cancer.

The council began selling yellow ribbons at the eighth grade open house night earlier this month and will offer the ribbons and bracelets labeled "#WampNathan" for suggested donations of $1 and $2 at upcoming BHS athletic competitions.

Nathan was diagnosed three years ago with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone and soft tissue cancer. His father Chris ran the Boston Marathon this year to help raise money for the children's cancer clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital.

He passed away on Sept. 17, 2013 at age 15, according to his obituary. Nathan will be remembered with the bench at the high school, likely to be installed by the end of the fall season, depending on fundraising, Student Council Vice-President Thomas Doherty said in an email.

If anyone would like to purchase either the ribbons or bracelets but cannot attend BHS sports games, they can email Alex Jefferies (the Class of 2016 advisor) at ajefferies@braintreema.gov.
