The famous "Blizzard of 1978" dumped more than three feet of snow on Braintree and the surrounding area, closing roads, businesses and schools for days.
It was the most significant winter storm in recent history, according to data put together for the town's hazardous mitigation plan, which is connected to a federal grant. The Town Council will review the plan at an upcoming meeting.
More recently, though, snowfalls for the winter in total have crushed past accumulation amounts. In 2008, Massachusetts experienced record snowfall, and 2010-2011 came close, with 60.3 inches measured at Logan Airport.
