A fast-moving thunderstorm bearing winds as fast as 60 mph is moving through Plymouth and into northeastern Norfolk County and the Braintree area on Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning shortly before 8 p.m., in effect until 8:30 p.m.
Heavy rains are also expected in the area, and the service is warning about possible flooding as well. According to the NWS:
"THE IMMEDIATE BOSTON METRO AREA AND NORTH SHORE SHOULD EXPECT A BRIEF PERIOD OF HEAVY RAINS...RESULTING IN PONDING OF WATER IN LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. LEAF CLOGGED DRAINS WOULD EXACERBATE THIS EFFECT. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL TRACK NORTHWARD THROUGH BOSTON AND ON INTO THE NORTH SHORE THROUGH 9 PM....
"DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND."
