UPDATE 2:55 p.m.: BELD reports on Twitter that it believes all power is now restored. It encourages customers to call 781.348.2353 if they are still without power.
UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: BELD GM Bill Bottiggi said in an email that a "lightening arrester" failed at Potter Station.
Lightening arresters, according to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, "are protective devices for limiting surge voltages due to lightning strikes or equipment faults or other events, to prevent damage to equipment and disruption of service."
"We have removed the failed equipment and are working to restore power," Bottiggi said.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, the Braintree Police Department reported on Twitter that there are power outages townwide.
UPDATE: The Braintree Fire Department responded around the same time to a small fire on Edge Hill Road in East Braintree. Lieutenant Joseph McLaughlin said he could not confirm if the outages and the fire were related, but said that BELD is working on the outage.
The department had no other information immediately available. The Braintree Electric Light Department has yet to post an update. Patch put in a message to BELD and will update this article when it has more information.
