Celebrate Sustainability in Marshfield With Local Environmental Groups

Visitors will find a festive atmosphere full of educational workshops, informational booths, and music.

Sustainable South Shore, Edible South Shore Magazine, and Go Green Web Directory announce their Second Annual South Shore Celebration!, an event highlighting local food, green products and services, and sustainable living. When folks gather together to celebrate the local harvest and our own region’s sustainable choices, it’s cause for a Celebration!

Sustainable Braintree and All Souls Church will also be collaborating on the presentation of our Water Tasting Challenge – asking people to rate bottled water against tap water from Marshfield. 

The festival, to be held on October 6th at the Marshfield Fairgrounds from 10 am-4:30 pm rain or shine, will feature the following:

• 75 diverse vendors of locally prepared healthy foods and green products and services;

• Over 15 workshops and demonstrations providing useful information on aspects of sustainable living related to food, gardening, home agriculture, greening your home, and personal health (check website for more specific info on workshop topics);

• Kids' activities provided by Hanson Children’s museum, including make-your-own play dough and bug bandanas, corn husk dolls, decorating pumpkins, and learning about a cranberry bog;

• Delicious, healthy foods to eat on site or take home;

• Informative displays on sustainable living;

• A home electronics recycling station provided by METECH, guaranteed to provide sustainable and safe recycling;

• Electric vehicle display. Last year’s event attracted over 3500 attendees, and organizers hope to build on this amazing success and draw over 5000 attendees this year. The second annual Celebration! will also feature some new events:

• A Seafood Throwdown contest from 11:30 am-1:00 pm featuring two local chefs, local seafood, and fresh produce, with State Rep. Jim Cantwell as one of the judges;

• A Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness tent;

• A Field to Fork Dinner at the end of the festival, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, with smoked pork from Brown Boar Farm in Vermont and seafood provided by Scituate fisherman (tickets are $30 and are available through the website; local beers and wine will be served for an additional charge);

• A featured charity, Magical Moon Foundation;

• Entertainment by Melodeego (check out their bicycle-powered sound system!).

The purpose of the Celebration! is to serve as a clearinghouse for information on living sustainably, highlighting the many green resources of the South Shore, and to provide a venue for networking among people and organizations who strive to improve our quality of life. Visitors will find a festive atmosphere full of educational workshops, informational booths, and music. The organizers hope to make this festival a model event for sustainability by generating low CO2 emissions and recycling or composting most waste. This is an all-volunteer, community-supported event.

Entry to the Celebration! is $5 for individuals and $10 for families; parking is free at the fairgrounds. For a nominal fee people may bring their unwanted electronics (including cellphones, computers, and microwaves) to be recycled in an environmentally-sound fashion by METECH.
