South Shore Chamber of Commerce to Host "IT Security: Managing Evolving Threats to Your Business"



 The South Shore Chamber of Commerce, the region’s largest Chamber, will host a brown bag luncheon seminar on “IT Security: Managing Evolving Threats to Your Business” on July 9th at 12 pm at the South Shore Chamber Headquarters, 1050 Hingham Street in Rockland.


The session will include:

·         Current Internet and data security scams that are threatening businesses right now

·         Economic impact of  these threats and  how to combat them

·         Importance of SANS 20 critical controls and their application to any business or industry

Participants will learn:

·         Prevalence of internet and data security threats

·         Steps to reduce threats

·         Ask the right questions when making technical purchases, implementations, rollouts, staff hires, etc. using the 20 controls list

The presentation will be suited for business leaders and IT professionals. Material will be presented in a format suitable for both technical and/non-technical professionals.


The program will be presented by Aaron Sawchuk, Founder, Colospace and Jake McAleer, IT Audit and Security Manager, O’Connor & Drew, PC.

Sawchuk helps implement the overall technology and product development strategy, focusing on building highly-available IT services that add significant value to customer operations.  He brings extensive experience in the IT-services and Internet Networking space, having spent more than fifteen years founding and leading technology firms in New England. 

 McAleer focuses on IT security and compliance. He helps companies assess their current and future IT solutions against industry best practices, as well as regulatory and legal requirements.  He has over ten years of industry experience in running and securing IT environments.  His previous positions include Internet infrastructure services, IT audit in the financial industry, and systems work with defense contractors.


The session costs $25 for Chamber members and $50 for general admission. Participants should bring a brown bag lunch, beverages and fresh fruit will be provided.
