A RESOURCE FAIR FOR SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILIES

  – Parents of children with
special needs can often feel lost, alone and confused trying to find the best
care and support for their loved ones. The south shore is rich with resources
for parents like these, and an event being held next month will bring together
a number of these experts in the fields of education, health services and financial
planning to assist parents in building the support systems that will allow for
their child’s best possible future.

The event will take place on
Thursday October 10th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Shore YMCA’s
Laura’s Center for the Arts at 75 Mill Street in Hanover, MA.Sponsored by
Healthy Living Magazine, it is being organized by Editor Candita Mamet whose
goal is to “help parents navigate through the process of getting services for
their special needs student by working collaboratively with the schools.”

Trained by the Federation for Children
with Special Needs, her previous work as a School Adjustment Counselor and
Social Worker have given Candita a keen insight for helping families forge the
best possible  partnerships with school administrators and teachers, while
also building a support network from professional service providers and
community connections. “We must focus on the needs of the student, while
helping the family during what is often an overwhelming time” she explains.
This passion for helping families is what led her to plan the event. Parents
and caregivers from throughout the south shore are invited to attend for free
with advance registration.

In addition to meeting with numerous
community organizations and professional service providers, attendees will have
the opportunity to hear from special needs experts on a number of topics.
Presenters include Christina Seremetis of the Lindamood-Bell Learning Center,
who will lead an informative Q&A on solutions for a broad range of
learning challenges. Also speaking will be Attorney Jude J. Kostas, who will
present a seminar on planning for the legal and financial future of special
needs dependents.

Anyone looking to gain knowledge about
expert providers, programs and resources available on the south shore is
encouraged to attend. Pre-register by sending an email to mmamet@verizon.net in advance of
