South Shore Plaza Opening at 12:30 a.m. on Black Friday

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 23, 2012.

The South Shore Plaza will open extra early this year for Black Friday, cracking its doors at 12:30 a.m. for the crowds of shoppers expected to line up starting on Thanksgiving.

A spokeswoman for the Braintree mall confirmed the opening time, which is three and a half hours earlier than last year's. Store-by-store hours may vary for the Nov. 23 shopping holiday.

Across town at Best Buy, doors will open at 1 a.m., according to the company's website. All Massachusetts Best Buys will have that store opening time, while across the country the electronics retailer is shooting for midnight openings.

Last year there was some confusion when retailers in Braintree and across the state had to move their midnight openings after concerns about conflicting with Massachusetts law.

State law allows stores to open at midnight on Black Friday, but does not allow employees to work before that time, causing retailers with Bay State locations to re-consider their openings. Target rescheduled to 1 a.m., Macy's to 12:30 p.m. and Best Buy 1 a.m.
