Nanci's Barbershop to Celebrate 20 Years in Business

The following is from Nanci's Barbershop owner Nancy Ducharme.

Entrepreneur:  An individual who organizes and operates a business, taking on a financial risk to do so.  Embracing the challenge that you decided to take on.  It may be somewhat irrational,  crazy, a wild ride... it was my choice even though statistics show the odds were against me.

With persistence and determination, I decided to jump on the roller coaster of Business owners. It's the American Dream isn't it?Here is a tremendous quote by Steve Jobs which says it all in a nutshell...

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.  Dont' be trapped by dogma-which is living with the results of other peoples thinking.  Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become.  Everything else is secondary."

Twenty years ago this month at the age of 27, I decided to take the jump and start my own business. . My back ground was an Associates Degree in Business and was to continue to my Bachelors Degree.  My passion diverted me to going to Barber school instead.  My parents advice was to follow your dream and I did just that.

I became a Barber in 1987, worked at a few Barbershops including the Ritz Carlton in Boston's Back Bay. (Nanci's is known as the "Back Bay of Braintree". (How ironic!)  I opened up Nanci's Barbershop in 1993 and 20 years later I have a staff of 10 Barbers and one of the largest privately owned Barbershops in the South Shore.

It has not always been easy, when you close the doors for the night, the doors are still open in my mind.  Always thinking and always trying to make it better and trying to juggle family ( four children and a husband!)

Barbershops has always been a favorite and convenient house of call, in a literary sense, for authors of every grade and period, Don Quixote, with his shaving pan of brass   and downward to our own day.

It has always been a sort of wayside stile, where they have rested and amused themselves... Here at Nanci's, we have that same feel, we are located in a historic building of over 100 years,  a hand made 10 foot high real lollipop tree thanks to my husband, and hours of convenience, our doors are open from 5:30a.m to 8p.m. Host of Monday Night Football, watch the game, get a haircut, light fare and good conversation.

We continue this tradition of which our many loyal patrons keep coming back with great appreciation, and Nanci's is giving thanks with a celebration on July 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lots of festivities. So, stop on by, relax, take in the atmosphere and  enjoy!
