Fate of Braintree Jade Up in the Air

The Braintree Square restaurant is closed.

Braintree Jade, a Chinese restaurant in Braintree Square, has closed under new ownership and may or may not return as a restaurant.

The restaurant closed about a month ago, Town Clerk Joe Powers said, and the new property owner's attorney contacted the Licensing Coordinator to say they will be putting in a change of ownership request on Jade's food license.

But the owner, who recently purchased the building at 373 Washington St.,  said the commercial space on the first floor of the building that currently holds Braintree Jade could also hold a different kind of business in the future, Powers said.

The business has more latitude with the Board of License Commissioners when it comes to closing for renovations or otherwise because it does not hold an alcohol license.

An MLS listing of 373 Washington St. has been taken down from local real estate websites. The previous owners, listed by Patriot Properties as Seto Bok Lun, Mak Sin Tong and Kwong Y K TRS, could not be reached for comment.

The value of the building and land was listed with Patriot Properties as $369,200 and the property was listed at $599,000, according to Weichert.com.
