Craft Beer Store Plans Fall Opening in Braintree

The motto of the Craft Beer Cellar: "We are interested in amazing beer from small breweries, and all that entails. "

Owners of the Craft Beer Cellar, a local chain of specialty beer stores with locations in Belmont and Winchester, are laying the groundwork for a shop in the Landing.

The store will be located on Commercial Street in Braintree and is scheduled to open by early November, according to co-owner Suzanne Schalow, who with fellow ex-restaurateur Kate Baker started Craft Beer Cellar in 2010.

The Landing is "up and coming and the South Shore needs a store that is focused on craft beer, taking care of and educating people - and we're up for that challenge!" Schalow said in an email.

Shalow said that a liquor license application will likely be turned into Braintree officials by early next week, giving the company two to three months to get through the local and state permitting processes.

Craft Beer Cellar won first place this year in Boston Magazine's Best of Boston awards for Best Beer, Shop for its Belmont location.

"Beer nerds and brewmasters, unite! This suburban shop, which lines its shelves with everything from Rock Art Jasmine pale ale (Vermont) to Hofbräu Dunkel (Germany), isthe place for suds aficionados. And for those just getting into the craft-beer scene, the knowledgeable staffers here offer weekly tastings that let you try before you buy," according to the magazine.

The company also has new locations planned for Westford and Newton.
