Newton North Squeaks by Lady Wamps

October 15, 2013
Alumni Stadium, Braintree High School

The Braintree High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team were narrowly defeated by #2 ranked Newton North. The Lady Wamps, despite a rash of injuries (Jen Guen, Caroline Cross, Tori Deems), played perhaps their most complete game of the year.

The high flying Tigers lead the Bay State conference in scoring - averaging 3+ goals per game and feature 4 of the conference top 10 scorers, including #1 scorer Shannon Fitzerald who has 16 goals and 4 assists, double the nearest scorer. Again the defensive play was outstanding as the Wamps held the Tigers' offense in check.

After a scoreless first half, Newton North picked up a goal off a corner kick (and a questionable non-call on keeper interference).  The girls had several high quality scoring bids that just missed finding the back of the net which could have tied (or won) the game.

The girls record now stands at 5-5-3 and they need 5 points in their remaining 4 contests to earn a spot in the postseason.

The girls return to action on Thursday, October 17 @ 5pm vs Brookline at Alumni Stadium.
