At Braintree High School’s Alumni Field
The Braintree High School Girls Varsity Soccer team continued their winning ways with a 2-1 victory over the Norwood High School Mustangs this afternoon. Sophomore Ally O’Rourke's goal with just minutes left in the second half broke open a 1-1 tie and sealed the Wamps' victory (keeper Christie Fleming notched the assist on O'Rourke's goal with her towering goal kick). The final score, as is often the case, does not tell the full story. The Wamps' controlled both the tone and tempo of the game from the opening and dominated in terms of time of possession and scoring chances. The Wamps took an early lead as Tess Welch (So.) drilled home Caroline Cross' (Jr.) cross to open the scoring midway through the first half. Despite their dominance on the pitch, and multiple scoring bids, surprisingly the Wamps could not put another another few goals through. Mid-way through the second half the Mustangs managed to spoil keeper Fleming's scoreless streak with a fluke goal. The Wamps looked headed for a disappointing 1-1 draw until O'Rourke notched the game winner to run the girls record to 2-0. Next up for the girls is an away match v. Dedham on Thursday September 12 at 3:45pm.
