Winter Unofficially Arrives in Braintree

Snow, sleet and rain hit the region Sunday night into Monday morning.

A thin coat of snow covered much of Braintree Monday morning, before a mix of rain and sleet turned it to mush.

The winter storm hit late Sunday night, bringing freezing precipitation and a treacherous commute two weeks before winter officially hits.

Rain and sleet is expected to continue Monday through 4 p.m., with a chance of mainly rain after that, according to the National Weather Service. Should clear up Monday night, with a bit of fog and a low around 29 degrees.

Tuesday brings another chance of snow to the area, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the NWS reports. Otherwise mostly cloudy with a high just above freezing.
