Torrential Rain Expected on Fourth

Winds are expected to pick up on Cape Cod and the South Shore Friday night.

Hurricane Arthur isn’t expected to make a direct hit on New England, but the area will still feel its effects later on Friday.

Weather forecasters are predicting most of the area will see widespread torrential downpours Friday afternoon.

7News’ Jeremy Reiner said after a calm morning clouds and scattered showers should arrive midday, which will lead to downpours that are expected to last into the night.

Forecasters are predicting as much as four inches of rain in some areas. CBSBoston’s Terry Eliassen doesn’t expect any major river flooding, but is warning of street flooding on Friday.

Cape Cod and the Islands will likely see increased wind Friday night as Arthur moves past the area. Eliassen said Arthur will likely be about 50 miles from Nantucket at about 10 p.m. Winds may gust to 60 mph on the Cape and between 20 to 40 mph on the South Shore on Friday night.

After a rain-soaked Friday, the rest of the holiday weekend is expected to bring sun and low humidity, but the National Weather Service is still warning about potential dangerous rip currents as Arthur moves away from New England.

Storm impact way overrated. NOAA plays it safe.

Better safe than sorry, but in all honesty....this storm is doing everything they predicted it was going to do. It followed the predicted track, and the rainfall totals are so far pretty much right on the money. What's so overrated about it?

Forewarning is great but to do this story as a headline on July 6th, days after it happened is not what a "newspaper" should do. Who edits this site?
