StoryWalk at Braintree Playground Combines Literacy and Exercise

Visitors to French's Common Park Playground may enjoy the book, Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Elhert through Oct. 4.

Combining physical activity with literacy may seem like an odd mix, but it’s an innovative way to get people of all ages out walking while reading a children’s picture book.

Pages of a book are transformed into signs that are then laid out on a trail inviting families, children, caregivers, teachers and others to follow the path of pages and experience the outdoors at the same time.

Visitors to French’s Common Charlotte Rose Kelly Play Area may enjoy the book, Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Elhert through Oct. 4. This delightful story describes the growth of a maple tree from seed to sapling, and is appropriate for all ages.

The StoryWalk™ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of MontpelierVT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
