Local Dogs Swabbed For DNA Over Mystery Poop

Devon Woods in Braintree is now testing dog poop that is left on the ground.

The decision by management at Devon Woods in Braintree to DNA test dog excrement left on the grounds to determine ownership and assess fines has caught fire on news sites and social media.

Responses on Twitter have ranged from the obvious pun – "Rut roh!" – to the TV-related parodies "CSI come to #Braintree" and "Big Brother does Doggy Duty."

Barbara Kansky, GM of the condominium complex off Liberty Street, told CBS Local "she laughed out loud when she discovered dog doo could be subjected to DNA testing to help stop the flow of canine excrement landing on the condo complex’s 350-acre property."

To combat the gross mess associated with poop strewn around the property, the association is collecting DNA samples from the cheeks of all dogs living at Devon Woods. The swab costs $50 and fines for not properly disposing of the poop are $150.
